Work in Progress
« 4 seasons » dining-car set

In 2009 the CFBS bought two metallic bogie carriages from the Furka DFB (Dampfbahn Furka-Bergstrecke) summit line in Switzerland, themselves originally from the Swiss Rhaetian Railways (RhB), and numbered B 2212 and B 2214. The initial idea was to convert them into two comfortable and heated dining cars, which could be used all the year round. However, this conversion turned out to be more complex than anticipated. The CFBS then had the opportunity to buy a pair of proper dining cars, retired from service on the Rhaetian Railways, and known as “the Jumbo set”: WR 3816/3817. They were delivered to the CFBS in 2015.
In 2017, a large bogie luggage van was bought from the RhB; N° D4218. It will be used as a generator van to supply power to the dining-car set.
Finally, in 2018, dining-car WR3822 was bought from the RhB.

A first segment of the future “4 seasons” dining train, consisting of van D4218 and of dining cars WR3816/3817, is currently being adapted for service on the CFBS. This consist will offer 64 seats and is planned to be put into service in 2021.
In a second phase, the dining train will be complemented by dining car WR3822, and one of the two B2212/2214 carriages, to be used as a saloon/bar/seminar carriage with a modular capacity ranging from 20 to 35 seats.

WR 3816/17 (Jumbo)
This two-car set was built in 1987 by the FFA company to provide dining services in the scheduled trains of the Rhaetian Railways. It can seat 64 passengers comfortably and features a kitchen compartment. According to Rhaetian Railways advertising, it is the “longest restaurant room in Europe”.

WR3822
This former Rhaetian Railways dining car was built in 1982 (A 1200 series) as a first class carriage before being converted into a dining car by adding tables and a catering area. It can seat 36 passengers and was included in the RhB regular trains.

D 4218
This large bogie van, built in 1970, was used on the regular Rhaetian Railways passenger services through the Grisons mountains until 2017. It acted as a service carriage and carried luggage and parcels. It will become the generator van on the future CFBS dining car train and has just been fitted with a 100 KVA generator to provide light and heating to the train.

B2212 and B2214
These two carriages, also from the Rhaetian Railways, were rebuilt in 1960 on the chassis of carriages originally built by SIG in 1913, then refitted ca. 1980. Withdrawn from service in the late 1990s, they spent some time on the Dampfbahn Furka-Bergstrecke Swiss tourist line before being transferred to the CFBS in 2009. One of them will be refitted in the future to increase the overall capacity of the dining car train.
